Compass was created in collaboration with choreographer Missy Pfohl Smith and commissioned in the spring of 2024. Our process began by gathering source material drawn from

our individual inspirations. I recorded myself playing piano and guitar and singing, using these sounds to build a dense, gesture-driven collage that was later electronically

transformed. Missy captured movement during the total solar eclipse in Rochester, New York, and used this material as the basis for her choreography.

The resulting work, Compass, reflects the anxiety of moving without clear direction, as well as my own fear of a profound social shift—one in which the cultural landscape risks

sliding toward a more authoritarian future.
