Music

Some Impressions was composed through the exploration of a single, self-contained pitch network from which all musical material in the work is derived. Rather than developing themes in a

linear or hierarchical manner, the piece unfolds discursively: fragments, aphoristic gestures, and tonal illusions emerge, overlap, and dissolve into one another. These moments often appear

simultaneously or in close juxtaposition, creating a layered musical surface in which no single perspective is privileged.

Although the work does not quote or reference any specific repertoire, I perceive the presence of many disparate musical influences embedded within the realization of the music. These

impressions arise not from deliberate stylistic borrowing, but from the inherent resonances and tensions produced by the network itself. As the material evolved, the resulting dramaturgy

frequently surprised me, suggesting forms, trajectories, and expressive contrasts that were not predetermined.

The compositional process was inspired in part by the concept of Indra’s Net: a metaphor for infinite interconnection, in which each node reflects and contains all others. In this sense, every

musical event in Some Impressions can be understood as both autonomous and dependent, shaped by its position within the larger web. Ultimately, the piece offers a series of vivid, shifting

impressions—colors, gestures, and relationships—drawn from sustained engagement with this interconnected musical net.
